
About Us
York Cougar Bands is a comprehensive program that serves approximately 350 students at YCHS, YMS, YIS, & HGSES in instrumental music and dance education.
Opportunities at the 6th grade level include: beginning music reading, instrumental training, school/district concert performances, fundraising activities including the YSD1 Bands BBQ sale, and SCBDA State Solo & Ensemble Assessment trip.
Opportunities at the middle school level include Christmas Parades, 7th grade intermediate band, 7th grade Carowinds trip, 8th grade advanced band, 8th grade Dollywood trip, 8th grade Jazz Band class, SCBDA State Concert Performance Assessment trip, SCBDA State Jazz Band Performance Assessment trip, SCBDA State Solo & Ensemble Assessment, and SCBDA Region/All-State Band auditions and clinic, fundraising activities including the YSD1 Bands BBQ sale, and school/district performances. Select gifted 8th graders have the opportunity to participate in the Cougar Marching Band "Early Experience Program."
Opportunities at the high school level include "The Pride of York" Cougar Marching Band, Honors Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Honors Jazz Band, Percussion Ensemble, Chamber Ensembles, Fall & Winter Cougarettes, and Cadet Cougarettes. Within these programs of study and ensembles students participate in a wide variety of performance opportunities such as Marching Band competitions, SCBDA State Marching Band Championships, community parades, school/district performances, SCBDA Region/All-State auditions and clinics, SCBDA State Concert Performance Assessment, SCBDA State Jazz Performance Assessment, CWEA Winterguard Competitions & Championships, CWEA Winter Percussion Ensemble Competitions & Championships, SCBDA State Solo & Ensemble Assessment, Cougar Band's bi-annual Fry fundraiser, YSD1 Bands BBQ sale, and the Miss YCHS Pageant.
